"I believe that the key to a great design is how honest it is."
I grew up in Draper, Utah. I have always loved lego, I am part of the Utah Lego Users Group. I started Lego when I was about four years old and after a few years off, I have come back with a vengeance. My latest Lego purchase is a 4080 piece Disney World castle. I am also an Apple fanatic and love getting any new tech.
Why I Design
When I “grow up” I want to design things for Disneyland. At Disneyland, someone has designed the guest’s entire experience, and people are willing to buy the ticket even though they are expensive. One of my favorite aspects of design is watching other people enjoy it. I hope to make things that people will use to better their lives. You can help people escape their drudgery by designing something new and exciting for them. To me, this is the most pure form of engineering.
What I Do
I am helping Dr. Mattson write a grant proposal for topology optimization. To help bridge the gap between industry and academia. Right now what topology optimization programs create are too complex, but with additive manufacturing it is become easier for industry to use topology optimization. We are trying to create a way to inherently know if a design created by the computer is the best design possible, so that engineers of tomorrow can create quickly and efficiently.
